Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about WhereInAI, AI visibility tracking, and GEO.

Getting started

WhereInAI is an AI visibility monitoring tool. It scans major AI platforms (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews) with your chosen prompts and tells you whether your brand is being mentioned, at what position, and with what sentiment.

No. Enter your brand details, run the scan, and enter your email to receive the full report. No account, no password, no commitment.

About 60 seconds for a free scan. Paid scans take a little longer because each prompt is sent to every AI platform 3 times instead of once, to smooth out response variability.

Your visibility score (0-100) represents how often AI mentions your brand across all tracked prompts and platforms. It factors in mention rate, position, sentiment, and citations.

Platforms and tracking

The free scan covers ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. Paid users also get Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. Each platform has its own retrieval pattern. ChatGPT blends training data with optional web search via Bing. Claude generates from training data without live retrieval by default. Gemini integrates Google search and weighs structured data heavily. Perplexity is citation-first with inline sources. Google AI Overviews surface at the top of search results and prioritise authoritative domains.

Paid plans run each prompt 3 times per platform. AI responses vary between queries, so running multiple samples gives you statistically reliable results instead of a snapshot that might not represent the norm. Free scans run each prompt once for speed.

Position tracking tells you where in the AI response your brand appears. Position 1 means you were recommended first. Position 5 means you were an afterthought. This is a paid feature.

Paid users can track up to 3 competitors alongside their brand. You will see share of voice comparison, who appears at which position, and which citations are driving their visibility.

GEO and SEO

Traditional SEO optimises for ranking in search results. GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) optimises for how AI models describe and recommend your brand. AI weighs citation sources, entity descriptions across the open web, and structured data more heavily than backlinks or anchor text.

GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimisation. It is the practice of optimising your online presence so AI assistants like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini mention, recommend, and cite your brand when answering relevant questions. GEO overlaps with SEO on technical fundamentals (schema markup, page speed, crawlability) but diverges on signal weighting. AI models lean on citation sources like Wikipedia, Reuters, G2, and Trustpilot more heavily than Google does, and reward consistent entity descriptions across the open web rather than backlink quantity. WhereInAI measures how well your GEO strategy is working.

Start with our free guides on appearing in ChatGPT, getting cited by Perplexity, and building topical authority. Key strategies include structured data, authoritative content, getting listed on citation sources AI models trust, and building consistent topical depth.
